Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station

January 21, 2015

Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) is currently transitioning management of the Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station to a stakeholder group. As key stakeholders and partners, the Nunatsiavut Government and Parks Canada are both involved in the process.

The Base Camp and Research Station is located adjacent to the southern boundary of the Torngat Mountains National Park, 200 kilometers north of Nain, Labrador, and has become the gateway to the national park. For the past five years, NGC has overseen the operations of Base Camp on behalf of the Nunatsiavut Government, which owns all infrastructure at the site, and worked in partnership with Parks Canada for the delivery of programs and guest experiences.

During this time period, NGC and its partners have learned a tremendous amount about the challenges of managing the remote facility. The company, along with the Nunatsiavut Government and Parks Canada, remains committed to making this site a sustainable tourism operation.

The new management regime will continue to build on the excellent reputation that Base Camp has developed for being a highly sought after destination for adventure tourism. This management change will have no impact on the 2015 Base Camp tourism season.
