Nunatsiavut Construction Inc. (NCI), a subsidiary of Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) is seeking a Occupational Health and Safety Officer to work out of the Nunatsiavut Construction Office in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The primary role is to work in collaboration with the Construction General Manager and the Business Manager, ensuring all arms of the Company is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

This position is involved in regulatory and control work of workplaces under the jurisdiction of the legislation specified. In addition to inspecting and investigating to ensure compliance with the regulations, there is a requirement to participate in the delivery of educational programs and to carry out prescribed industrial surveys, as well as to assist in the training and development of staff. This position will also ensure all manuals are up to date and deal with the Government Officials with Occupation Health and Safety who visit sites. This position requires travel. They will also ensure that legislation is followed and prepare reports to government departments and the general manager as required.

The duties require health and safety officers to have a thorough understanding of legislation relating to safety standards and the ability to advise corrective action and facilitate change to improve the health and safety culture of workplaces. Health and safety officers also must keep informed about changes in technology.

Qualifications:

  • Possesses the ability to deal with people in a professional, friendly, courteous and personal manner
  • Have strong communication and leadership skills
  • Have the ability to organize and prioritize work and be detail oriented.
  • Enjoys variety and copes with interruptions/problems with patience & understanding.
  • Able to work independently and without close supervision.
  • Able to operate effectively under pressure including in emergency situations
  • Willing to work flexible hours and weekends
  • 5 years’ proven experience in the trade.
  • Possess Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Education:

  • Diploma In Occupational Health And Safety Officer Training
  • Safety & Environmental Certificates in:
    • Standard First Aid
    • Environmental Awareness
    • WHMIS 2015 GHS
