The NGC Solutions Inc. (NSI) is seeking a Café Cook to work at the Café Illusuak at the Illusuak Centre in Nain. The Café Cook is in charge of operating the kitchen, cooks, setting the menu in line with our goals, supervising and providing food service to clients designed to showcase local, jams, baked good, soups and sandwiches and sustainable recipes. The Café Cook will plan the menu, assist with order food supplies, and organize the kitchen activities to ensure that nourishing and attractive orders are served in a timely manner to all customers.


  • Consults the established budget and plans the cafe menus for the duration of a quarterly period, presents to the Manager for approval
  • Assists the Manager with food orders and ordering of the kitchen supplies
  • Ensures safe food handling procedures as well as sanitation within the kitchen
  • Supervises the kitchen staff in their various functions including with the Café’s traditional food as well as an alternate menu choice
  • Exercises portion control within the allocated budget
  • Follows all Food safety rules and regulations as applicable to the kitchen and supporting structures
  • Implements a quality control process to ensure guests are satisfied with their food items including soup and sandwiches, and that customers are satisfied with the products
  • Performs other duties as required


  • Experience working as a Head Cook
  • Management of a kitchen team Occupational Health and Safety
  • Personal Hygiene and Kitchen Sanitation Certificate
  • WHMIS and Basic First Aid certificates
  • Strong communication skills
  • Vocational Certification is an asset
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and experience an asset
