Timmiak Construction Limited is a joint venture company that is 51% owned by NGC and 49% by Bird Heavy Civil Ltd. Timmiak’s focus is on contracts valued at $10 million and above, and its alliance with Bird Heavy Civil Ltd. is intended to capitalize on this segment of the market. Bird merged with Stuart Olson in 2020, creating Bird Olson, one of Canada’s largest construction companies. The company stated that the merger will not impact the current Timmiak partnership arrangement.
Timmiak, and its predecessor, Nillik Construction Ltd., have successfully carried out several contracts and subcontracts at Voisey’s Bay. Most recently, Timmiak held a subcontract to place concrete, formwork, and rebar that became Raise Bore Collars for the tops of five shafts at the new underground mine.
One of the joint venture’s past major projects involved managing the development of the Illusuak Cultural Centre in Nain.
