Garry Best appointed as the next President and Chief Executive Officer at Nunatsiavut Group of Companies

May 1, 2024 – The Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Garry Best as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Best, a distinguished leader and Nunatsiavut beneficiary, will succeed the outgoing CEO, Chris Webb.

With over 35 years of leadership and extensive experience in managing large teams and budgets, Best has demonstrated a profound commitment to Indigenous communities, especially within Labrador. His recent roles have included Senior Advisor with Indigenous Services Canada and Regional Executive for the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, where he managed health programs for 133 Ontario First Nations.

“I know I am leaving NGC in great hands. Garry’s relationship to the Nunatsiavut community and NGC, along with his track record in strategic leadership and operational management make him the ideal leader to guide our companies into the future,” said Webb, current President and CEO.

Best expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “I am honored to step in to lead the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies as we wish a fond farewell to Chris. This role that resonates deeply with my personal and professional experiences. I look forward to leveraging my background in strategic change and system-wide innovation to further our mission and impact. This is an incredible team and I can’t wait to get to work advancing the interests of the Nunatsiavut beneficiaries and enhancing our operational excellence.”

Over the course of his career, Best has been recognized with several awards, including the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and the DND Diversity Award, underscoring his commitment to excellence and community service. His leadership at the Labrador Inuit Capital Strategy Trust as Board Chair further highlights his capability to foster significant and strategic relationships across various levels of government and indigenous groups.

Best will begin his role as President and CEO starting on May 6, 2024.
